Guwahati: On the morning of December 20, Assam Police detained Uday Bhanu Shiv, an All India Youth Congress leader, at a hotel in Guwahati’s Manik Nagar area. The police claim that Shiv had arrived in the city to take part in a protest organized by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).Reports suggest that the hotel, where Shiv was held, was under police surveillance, with officers stationed outside the premises. In addition, it has been reported that Shiv was prohibited from using his phone during the detention.However, Congress party members clarified that their gathering was not intended as a protest but rather as a prayer session. The police action comes amid heightened political tensions in the region.
