Guwahati: Political leaders across Assam mourned the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, remembering him as a visionary statesman whose humility and leadership played a key role in transforming India’s economy. Singh, often hailed as the architect of India’s economic liberalization, died at the age of 92 at AIIMS Delhi on Thursday.Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya expressed profound sorrow, emphasizing Singh’s monumental contribution to India’s global economic stature. “His kindness, decency, and efforts in strengthening the Indian economy will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace,” Acharya remarked.Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who had worked closely with Singh during his tenure, shared a personal tribute, describing the former PM as a model of humility. “Dr. Singh was a man of simple nature, untouched by the temptations of power. His wisdom and modesty left a lasting impression on everyone who met him,” Sarma wrote on X. He also credited Singh with playing a vital role in the economic shift towards a free-market economy, dismantling years of socialist policies.Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also honored Singh’s contributions to India’s economic rise, particularly during challenging times. “He embodied a rare blend of humility and intellect, leaving a profound impact on India’s growth. His death leaves a huge gap in our political landscape,” Sonowal stated.The Assam Congress remembered Singh as a visionary leader and distinguished economist, whose integrity and dedication to the nation continue to inspire generations. “India has lost one of its greatest sons.
