India Bids Farewell to Ex-PM Manmohan Singh with State Honors and Gun Salutes

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is laid to rest with full State Honors at Nigambodh Ghat, with top leaders and family members paying their respects. A seven-day national mourning has been declared in his honor.

New Delhi: India said its final goodbye to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 92, with full State Honors. The ceremonial rites took place at Nigambodh Ghat on Saturday, where his daughter lit the funeral pyre in the presence of top dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and senior Congress leaders.Manmohan Singh’s wife, Gursharan Kaur, along with other family members, placed a wreath on his body as they paid their final tributes. The procession began at the Congress headquarters in Delhi, where party leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi, offered their respects before the body was taken to the crematorium. The flower-covered vehicle carrying Singh’s mortal remains was accompanied by chants of “Manmohan Singh Amar Rahe” and “Jab tak suraj chand rahega, tab tak tera naam rahega,” as Congress workers and admirers followed along. Singh’s passing has led to a seven-day national mourning, with the national flag flying at half-mast across the country. Considered the architect of India’s economic reforms, Singh served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the nation’s political and economic landscape.
