Guwahati : In his New Year’s press conference, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the significant progress made in mitigating jihadi threats in the state, attributing the success to strong coordination with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Sarma revealed that recent operations had led to the dismantling of a major jihadi network, with 23 individuals arrested and various weapons seized.”The Assam police are fully aware of the threat posed by such groups near the border,” Sarma stated, explaining that operations have been carried out not only in Assam but also in collaboration with other states. The crackdown has extended to regions like West Bengal and Kerala, where suspects have been apprehended.Additionally, the chief minister addressed concerns about rising infiltration into Assam and India, particularly the issue of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. Sarma clarified that no Hindu Bangladeshis had been detected crossing the border in the past five months and commended the mature stance of the Hindu community in Bangladesh, noting that the number of those seeking to migrate to India is minimal. He emphasized that those who wanted to migrate likely did so decades ago, citing strong ties to their homeland.
