Ajay Kumar Bhalla Sworn In as Governor of Manipur

Ajay Kumar Bhalla takes oath as Manipur Governor, succeeding Lakshman Prasad Acharya amid ongoing ethnic tensions. Bhalla, a former Union Home Secretary, was appointed by President Droupadi Murmu.

Imphal: On January 3, Ajay Kumar Bhalla officially assumed office as the Governor of Manipur. The oath was administered by Chief Justice D. Krishnakumar of the Manipur High Court.Following the ceremony, Bhalla reviewed the guard of honour presented by the Manipur Rifles. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, legislators, senior officials, and police personnel attended the event.This leadership change comes amidst ongoing ethnic tensions in the state that began in May 2023. Bhalla succeeds Lakshman Prasad Acharya, who served as Governor since July 2023, with the appointment approved by President Droupadi Murmu.Notably, Bhalla holds the distinction of being the longest-serving Union Home Secretary, completing his five-year term in August 2022.
