Guwahati: In a remarkable display of efficiency, the Assam government approved land allocation for the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) University in Jagiroad within just one day. The swift decision reflects the state’s commitment to advancing technological education and infrastructure development.Announcing the milestone, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared that the NIELIT Director met with him on January 3 to discuss potential locations for the institute. “The Director met me around 5 p.m., and I suggested a plot in Jagiroad for review. By 9 p.m., I received confirmation that the site was ideal,” Sarma revealed.The Chief Minister lauded his administration’s efficiency, attributing this accomplishment to India’s growing emphasis on rapid development. Highlighting the achievement on his social media, Sarma noted that the expedited decision-making exemplifies Assam’s proactive approach to fostering growth and innovation.The establishment of NIELIT University is set to bring transformative benefits to the region. Focused on electronics and information technology, the institution aims to equip students with cutting-edge skills in line with evolving industry demands. The presence of such an institute is also expected to create job opportunities and boost local economic activity.Adding to the momentum, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is scheduled to inaugurate the university through a virtual event. During his visit to Assam, Vaishnaw will also tour the Tata Semiconductor factory located in Jagiroad, signaling the area’s growing prominence as a hub for technology and manufacturing.Chief Minister Sarma announced additional infrastructure developments, including plans for an international convention center and a state guest house in front of the Guwahati High Court. These facilities are expected to enhance Assam’s capacity for hosting significant events and dignitaries.
