Manipur CM N. Biren Singh clarifies his apology for the state crisis, emphasizing support for victims, not terrorists. Criticized by Congress, Singh defends the central government’s efforts and praises the appointment of Ajay Kumar Bhalla as Governor.

Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh responded sharply to Congress’s criticism of his apology for the ongoing crisis in Manipur, clarifying that his statement was directed toward victims of the conflict and not terrorists.Speaking during the oath-taking ceremony of Manipur’s newly appointed Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Singh accused the Congress party of being the root cause of the state’s unrest and questioned their commitment to restoring peace. He remarked, “Congress can say anything, even that the sun is the moon. My apology was to those who have lost loved ones and to displaced victims, not to terrorists.”Singh welcomed the central government’s decision to appoint Bhalla as Governor, praising his experience and intelligence. “I know Bhalla ji well. He has held several key positions in the Indian administration. His appointment reflects the central government’s serious intent to resolve Manipur’s challenges,” the CM stated, expressing hope for progress under Bhalla’s leadership.Addressing the ongoing ethnic tensions, Singh acknowledged the complexity of the situation, emphasizing that resolution will take time. He assured the public that 60-70% of their demands had been implemented, urging trust in the central government’s efforts to restore peace and stability in the state.Meanwhile, Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra criticized Singh’s apology, interpreting it as an admission of failure by the government. Meghachandra challenged Singh to outline a concrete plan for addressing the persistent violence, stating, “The people of Manipur deserve accountability and clear action from their leadership.”
