Guwahati: A massive protest erupted in Lahowal, Dibrugarh, with over a thousand residents surrounding the Lahowal Police Station, demanding the immediate arrest of a suspect in the brutal rape and murder of 22-year-old Sabha Majhi. Angered by police inaction, demonstrators shouted slogans against the police.Security forces, including paramilitary personnel, were deployed to maintain order as tensions escalated. Sabha’s naked body was discovered in the Chesa River on January 13, days after she went missing on January 9. Her body showed signs of severe injuries, and investigators have identified the suspect as Barun Murah from Timona, Lahowal, who remains at large.Preliminary reports indicate that the victim and the accused were in a romantic relationship. The community has expressed frustration at what they perceive as police negligence and inefficiency in capturing the fugitive. As the gherao of the police station continues, authorities have assured the public that efforts to track down Murah are ongoing. Forensic teams are analyzing evidence from the crime scene.
