Assam Sees 16% Decline in Road Fatalities as CM Sarma Stresses Continued Safety Efforts

Guwahati: In a promising move toward enhancing road safety, Assam recorded a 16.41% reduction in road fatalities during the holiday season compared to the same timeframe last year. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the data on January 17 via the social media platform X, underlining both the progress made and the continued need for vigilance on the roads.Between December 24, 2024, and January 15, 2025, the state witnessed 163 road accident deaths, a marked improvement from the 195 fatalities reported in the same period last year. Despite this positive trend, Sarma expressed concern about the persistent loss of lives and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to preventing further accidents.”While this improvement is encouraging, the loss of 163 lives remains a grave concern. We must continue working together to prevent every single death and ensure safer roads,” he stated.The government remains committed to reinforcing road safety initiatives, focusing on stricter enforcement of traffic rules, public awareness campaigns, and infrastructure improvements to protect citizens and minimize road-related tragedies.
