Seoul:Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a series of high-level meetings with prominent business leaders in South Korea on Tuesday, aiming to position Assam as a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing and expand its renewable energy capabilities.In a key interaction with Dr. Joon Choi, Vice President of SK Hynix, a global semiconductor leader, Sarma outlined his government’s ambitious vision to build a robust semiconductor ecosystem in the state. “Developing a comprehensive semiconductor manufacturing base is a top priority for Assam,” the Chief Minister remarked, emphasizing the region’s commitment to fostering an industry-friendly environment. The discussions highlighted infrastructure development, policy support, and opportunities for collaboration to propel Assam into the semiconductor space.Further advancing the semiconductor agenda, Sarma engaged in productive talks with Lee Young Joo, CEO of Seoul Viosys, a leading innovator in the optoelectronics sector. The Chief Minister showcased Assam’s readiness to welcome technology-driven industries by investing in world-class infrastructure, including a planned satellite township aimed at supporting businesses and technology enterprises.Renewable energy featured prominently on the Chief Minister’s agenda. In a dialogue with GS Group Vice President Young Ha Ryu, Sarma discussed Assam’s strategic goal of generating 3,000 MW of clean energy by 2030. He highlighted the state’s proactive approach to inviting investments in renewable power generation, as well as in training and workforce development to meet the demands of the growing green energy sector.In addition to engaging with business leaders, Sarma held a significant diplomatic meeting with Oh Youngju, South Korea’s Minister of SMEs and Startups. The discussions revolved around fostering collaboration between entrepreneurs from both regions, exploring avenues for technology sharing, innovation, and market access. Strengthening ties with South Korea’s dynamic startup ecosystem is expected to provide Assam’s entrepreneurs with opportunities to expand into international markets while benefiting from South Korea’s advanced technological expertise.These engagements are part of the broader #AdvantageAssam2 initiative, a renewed effort by the Assam government to attract global investment, technological expertise, and industrial partnerships.
