Shillong : Amid growing uncertainty regarding the implementation of crucial railway projects in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma revealed that the state government has been instructed to return Rs 200 crore allocated for land acquisition if progress isn’t made. The chief minister shared details of his recent meeting with the Railway Minister, where they discussed the stalled projects in Byrnihat and Shillong.Sangma emphasized the need for a collaborative approach, involving all stakeholders and the public, to ensure the smooth execution of these railway initiatives. He acknowledged that such matters require time, but made it clear that if the situation does not improve in the coming months, the allocated funds will have to be returned.The central government had previously approved two significant railway projects, including the 22-km Tetelia-Byrnihat stretch and the 108-km Byrnihat-Shillong line. However, these proposals have faced strong opposition from local groups concerned about the potential impact on the state’s population and resources, resulting in delays in their implementation.
