Former Meghalaya Cabinet Minister and prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader John Antonius Lyngdoh resigned from the saffron party.

Lyngdoh submitted his resignation letter to state BJP President Ernest Mawrie.

Lyngdoh in his resignation letter wrote, “the main reason for this resignation is because for the last 4 and a half years, I have felt sidelined, insulted and ostracized from the party, not once, not twice but time and again.”
“Under your leadership as the President of the party, I have felt a sense of dismay and unfortunately a sense of betrayal as well. Time and again, I have initiated a meeting and a talk with you but it never materialized,” – said stated.

Mawrie, on the other hand, has denied these allegations, saying that Lyngdoh was “never sidelined,” and that he has attended major party meetings for the previous four and a half years.

Lyngdoh also said that Mawrie began to favour Rocky Hek, the nephew of a former cabinet minister, shortly after his defeat in the assembly elections.

Lyngdoh joined the BJP in 2016 and contested in the 2018 assembly elections from the North Shillong constituency, losing by 406 votes to Adelberth Nongrum of the Khyun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Party.
