Arunachal: Kibithu Military Camp Named after late Gen Bipin Rawat

The military camp at Kibithu, near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh, has been renamed as ‘Gen Bipin Rawat military garrison’ in honour of the country’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), who died in a helicopter crash last December.

The state Chief Minister, Pema Khandu, also dedicated the 22-kilometer stretch of road from Walong to Kibithu as “Gen Bipin Rawat Marg.”

10 crore rupees have also been sanctioned to make Gen Rawat Garrison.

‘On September 10, a solemn dedication ceremony was held at Kibithu to honour late General Bipin Rawat’s selfless contribution to a grateful people.

Ms Tarini, Gen Rawat’s daughter who was also present at the event, unveiled a life-size mural of Gen Bipin Rawat at Kibithu.

Kibithu is a small hamlet near the LAC on the banks of the Lohit Valley in the Rest of Arunachal Pradesh (RALP).

As a Colonel, Gen Rawat commanded his Battalion 5/11 Gorkha Rifles at Kibithu from 1999 to 2000.

It needs to be noted that Gen Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, and 12 other military personnel died in a chopper crash in December.
