Guwahati: Assam police seized over 45 kg of cannabis and arrested 5 persons in this connection in Hojai district on Sunday.
The cannabis was seized from a southbound passenger train, sources said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Narottam Das, Samiran Das, Parimal Sarkar, Haradhan Debnath, and Krishna Sikari.
Last week, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized 22 packets of suspected ganja, weighing 27 kg, from the toilet of a coach of the Dibrugarh-Howrah Kamrup Express at the Guwahati Railway Station.
According to sources, the suspected ganja was wrapped in black polythene and sealed with cello-tape. However, the seized ganja was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for necessary legal action.
