Assam: Injured elephant succumbs to its injuries in Mariani

The wild elephant, who had been rescued by the forest department after being hit by a train, in Assam’s Mariani succumbed to its injuries today.

The jumbo had been suffering in a pool of mud for 40 hours after sustaining injuries.

A team of medics from Kaziranga was supposed to arrive today to continue treating the injured elephant, who was being treated by one doctor in Mariani.

Unfortunately, the elephant succumbed to its injuries this morning.

It is alleged that the elephant is thought to have died due to a drawn-out rescue effort and delayed medical care.

The wild elephant that had been struck by a speeding train in Titabor, Assam, on Sunday was successfully extricated by forest department authorities on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old elephant was found in a mud puddle.
A JCB was used to rescue the elephant, which was then loaded onto a truck.
