Assam CM inspects erosion-hit Maijan area in Dibrugarh
Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected the erosion-affected embankment in the Maijan area of the Dibrugarh district on Sunday.
Sarma gave assurance that urgent measures would be taken to address the problem.
Taking to Twitter, Sarma wrote, “Visited the erosion-affected embankment at Maijan area of Dibrugarh, which is crucial in keeping the town safe from floods.”
“Reviewed ongoing repair work and asked officials to ensure the longevity of the embankment. Assured associated agencies of all cooperation from our side”, he added.
He stated that his government would provide assistance to the families who have lost their land and houses to erosion in the area.
“The water resource division has taken some action to halt the erosion that is still occurring at Maijan. We will take long-term steps to address the erosion issue, but first, we must stop the current erosion. Numerous households have been rendered homeless as a result of continual erosion”, said CM.
