Assam: 7-year-old wild elephant found dead near Kaziranga

Guwahati: A carcass of a 7-year-old elephant was found in a forest near Kaziranga National Park of Assam on Monday, officials said.

As per the official, during a routine inspection inside a reserve forest under the Kaliabor sub-division in the Nagaon district, the baby elephant was found.

On Sunday night, a herd of four to five wild elephants could be heard screaming, locals said. They suspect that the baby died due to knocking by adult elephants.

However, the official said that an elephant calf had been suffering from some disease and it was treated by the doctors of Kaziranga National Park and was later released.

The body was buried at the same spot where the body was found after conducting the post-mortem, officially added.
