The Supreme Court today stated that the Kamakhya Temple in Assam is not being properly maintained, saying hygiene cannot be compromised there.
The matter relating to the maintenance of the temple was heard by a bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and C T Ravikumar.
“I was there during the vacations, and the temple is not being properly maintained. This is my personal opinion. There can’t be any compromise on hygiene,” Justice Rastogi observed.
Senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan, appearing for the temple argued that in this case, some individuals wrote letters alleging that hygiene was not being maintained.
He stated that the temple has been taken care of by roping in expert bodies like the Indian Institute of Technology.
In order to give the parties a chance to reach a mutually agreeable resolution, the supreme court deferred the case’s hearing in January 2023.
One of the most renowned and historic centres of Tantric practices is the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam, which is located atop the Nilachal Hills.
