Assam CM Provides Financial Aid to 318 Surrendered Militants

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed financial aid to 318 members of surrendered militant groups in Guwahati on Monday.

The financial aid distribution programme was held at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakhetra in Panjabari area.

Each member of the surrendered groups were allotted Rs 1,50,000 as rehabilitation package, said official.

Financial assistance was provided to surrendered cadres which included as many as 127 from the United Gorkha People’s Organization (UGPO), 74 from the Tiwa Liberation Army (TLA), 38 from the Kuki National Liberation Army (KNLA), 33 from Kuki Liberation Front (KLF), 11 from the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA), and 35 from the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).

“To date, we’ve provided aid to 6,740 ultras who gave up arms and 3,276 given skill training,” Sarma added.

During programme, CM appeal to ULFA chief Paresh Baruah to give up the path of violence to help usher in peace and progress in the State. “People of Assam today desire peace and prosperity”, said Sarma.

He also appealed to those who received financial aid to utilize the money in productive pursuits.
