Scuffle breaks out between CPI(M) & BJP supporters in Tripura, 9 injured

A scuffle between CPI(M) and BJP supporters in Tripura’s Khowai district injured at least nine people, including two police officers.

According to police, CPI (M) leaders and sympathisers gathered in Karoilong, around 30 kilometres from the state capital Agartala, for a meeting on Saturday night.

“During the gathering, a group of teenagers suddenly attacked CPI (M) activists, who also put up resistance, resulting in a confrontation between two sides,” said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Teliamura, Prasun Tripura.

He said that 9 people including 2 policemen who were deployed to provide security to the CPI (M) rally were injured.

Police and Tripura State Rifle contingent, led by SDPO Teliamura, went to the scene and brought the situation under control.

According to him, all of the injured people, including the two officers, were transferred to Teliamura hospital, from which three injured CPI(M) activists were referred to GBP hospital in Agartala for better care.

According to the SDPO, officers have filed a suo moto complaint in this subject, and everyone engaged in the occurrences will be served with a summons soon to begin the investigation.

“Around 10/12 BJP supporters allegedly attacked our rally in the Koroilong region, injuring at least ten of our comrades.” They also caused damage to the rally’s tables and chairs,” alleged a CPIM) leader.

The party condemned the rally attack and asked that the attackers be apprehended immediately.

Tripura’s assembly elections are scheduled for early next year.
