Six minor boys have been arrested by Assam Police on Tuesday in Assam’s Karimganj district for allegedly being involved in gang rape of a 13-year-old girl.
The arrested boys have been produced before the court and sent them to the observation room because all of them are minors and aged below 18 years.
The incident reportedly occurred within the limits of the Ramkrishna Nagar police station in Southern Assam.
On November 7, a case under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act was registered by the family members of the victim, said Nilovjyoti Nath, the officer in charge of the Ramkrishna Nagar police station.
He further added that the victim as well as the accused persons, all aged between 13 to 15 years belonged to the families of tea garden workers in the Ramkrishna Nagar area.
Moreover, the police seized one of the accused’s cell phones as evidence of the crime because he had recorded the entire crime incident and shared it with others.
Further investigation into the case is underway, said police.
