New Delhi:He was sworn in as the 14th Vice President of the country about four months ago. On Wednesday, the country saw him in the new seat. Jagdeep Dhankhar conducted the session for the first time as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. The winter session of Parliament began on Wednesday. It will continue till December 29. The name of the former Governor of Bengal has also come up repeatedly in prime minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the beginning of the session. Referring to Dhankhar’s landslide victory in the vice-presidential election, Modi said, “He has served as the Governor. You can work with everyone. I believe he will move forward with all of us.

We will prosper in his guidance. ’In his speech, Modi also highlighted dhankhar’s success as a lawyer, a son of a farmer family in Rajasthan. Referring to the court’s three-decade relationship with the Vice President, he said, “When you come to Parliament, you will not feel the lack of court. At the same time, the Prime Minister appealed to the opposition MPs to extend a helping hand to the new chairman in conducting the meeting. On August 6, Dhankhar had won the vice-presidential election by defeating opposition alliance candidate Margaret Alva by a huge margin. The former Governor of Bengal got 528 votes. Alva 182. As many as 34 Tmc MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha abstained from voting. He was sworn in as vice president on August 11. At the same time, he was also the chairman of the Rajya Sabha as an ex-officio member.

Incidentally, parliament was scheduled to conclude on August 12, but it was adjourned on August 8, four days before that. So Dhankhar is conducting the first meeting in the winter session. Many political analysts believe that the biggest challenge for him is going to be to run the upper house of parliament in a fair manner in the coming days. Because they think that before the Lok Sabha elections, the mercury of the conflict between the ruling and the opposition camp in Parliament can rise further. After Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) quit the BJP, the NDA’s TAlly in the Rajya Sabha has come down to close to the combined number of opposition MPs. From opposing the passage of a ‘controversial’ bill or resolution to stalling the Rajya Sabha on various issues, the opposition, including the Congress and the Trinamool, will now be able to enter the House with more force than ever before. Managing the possible situation is a “big challenge” for Dhankhar.
