Modi government will not pay 18-month DA arrears

New Delhi: Modi’s government employees will not get 18-month DA arrears. The Union Finance Minister, who has declared on the floor of Parliament that the economic condition of the country is very good, has also said that this time the employees cannot be paid the dues of 18 months of dearness allowance. The finance minister has announced in the Rajya Sabha that he will not pay the dues of 18 months of dearness allowance to the employees.

It is to be noted that during COVID-19, DA. Three instalments of arrears were closed. The three instalments were installments on January 1, 2022, July 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021 respectively. The finance minister has made it clear to central government employees that 18 months’ dues will not be available.


In July 2021 after Covid, the government resumed giving dearness allowance. The government, however, did not mention anything about the three instalments that had not been paid for the previous 18 months. Starting on July 1, 2021, the government increased the dearness allowance by 11 per cent. It was then increased to 28 per cent. The current rate is 38 per cent.

The recent announcement by the government will hurt the employees as well as pensioners financially.
Last year pensioners had appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through a letter demanding a DA arrears.

Meanwhile, the employees’ union said that dearness allowance is the right of the employees and pensioners and cannot be stopped.
