New Delhi : Recently, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, during the winter session of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, revealed that after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in 2014, the Centre has spent Rs 6,491.56 crore in the name of providing advertisements in print and electronic media.
In this case, the government spent Rs 3,260.79 crore on advertisements on electronic media and Rs 3,230.77 crore has been spent on print media over a period of eight years.
Data released by the minister shows a decline in the cost of advertising in print media and electronic media in the last three years. The minister disclosed this while replying to a question from CPI MP Muniyan Selvaraj. The government spent the most in the 2016-17 financial year on electronic media. At that time, the amount was Rs 609.15 crore. This was followed by an expenditure of Rs 531.60 crore in 2015-16 and Rs 514.28 crore in 2018-19, Thakur said. Till December 7 this year, the government has published advertisements worth Rs 76.84 crore on electronic media.
Talking about the cost of advertisements in print media, the Minister said that in 2017-18, the government spent Rs 636.09 crore. This was followed by rs 508.22 crore spent on advertising in 2015-16 and Rs 468.53 crore in 2016-17. Till December 7 this year, the government has spent Rs 91.96 crore on advertisements on print media.
