New Delhi:Tensions between India and Pakistan have once again escalated over the Indus Waters Treaty. India has sent a notice to Pakistan calling for amendment of the Indus Water Treaty. New Delhi has called on Islamabad for the first time to amend the agreement signed between the then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru and the then Pakistani President Ayub Khan in Karachi in 1960.
“India has issued a notice to Pakistan for amending the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) in September 1960. This is IWT as per paragraph (3) 12th… Pakistan’s stubborn attitude towards the Indus Waters Treaty has forced India to issue an amendment notice to the treaty. Under the notification, India has urged Pakistan to sit in intergovernmental negotiations within 90 days to “correct the overall violation” of the agreement and “update the agreement with the experience of the last 62 years”.
