New Delhi: India has reacted again on the issue of the Indus Water Treaty. India has not been able to accept the fact that the World Bank has been dragged into the middle of the issue. Recently, there has been a growing conflict between New Delhi and Islamabad over the Kishanganga and Rattle hydropower projects in Jammu and Kashmir.
India has questioned the World Bank’s decision to appoint an arbitration court and an impartial expert in this regard. Last week, India had issued a notice to Pakistan seeking review and amendment to the 62-year-old Indus Water Treaty (IWT) to resolve the dispute. Referring to the World Bank’s presence on the issue, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “I don’t think they (World Bank) are in a position to explain the agreement for us. It is an agreement between our two countries.”
