New Delhi: The age of consent for girls to have sex is 18. They are identified as minors before the age of 18. The Madhya Pradesh High Court wants to change this equation. They want to lower the age of consent for girls from 18 to 16. The high court has also appealed to the Centre in this regard.
Justice Deepak Kumar Agarwal of the High Court, while hearing a case, said the law was amended in 2012 to increase the age of consent for girls from 16 to 18. It has created complications in society. The judge observed that with the help of social media and other technologies, nowadays both boys and girls enter puberty quickly. Their mental development is much faster than before. Girls experience puberty around the age of 14. They are attracted to boys of the same age. A physical relationship was also formed with the consent of both of them. But in the eyes of the law, girls are not adults before the age of 18. So in many cases, it’s unfair to the boys.
