New Delhi: Jagdish Tytler, an accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, has been granted anticipatory bail by senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler. He is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday. The CBI had filed a charge sheet against him in May last year.
He got the protection of Jagdish’s anticipatory bail. In other words, he can’t be arrested tomorrow. He was granted bail for Rs 1 lakh. The anti-Sikh riots began after then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her own Sikh bodyguards. At least 3,000 people died in the riots. However, according to private estimates, thousands of people were victims of riots in Delhi alone. The total number is 8,000 across the country. Jagdish Tytler has been named as the most accused in the case.He has been acquitted by the CBI three times in the past. But there are rumours that new evidence has been found against the 78-year-old Congress leader. He became a minister in the Manmohan Singh government in 2004. However, he eventually had to resign after facing protests.
