“I apologise to all those present in the court,” the lawyer, appearing before a bench of Justice Rohit Deo of the Nagpur bench, said. I’ve never scolded you because I wanted you to improve. But I didn’t want to hurt anyone because you are all part of my family. I’m sorry to say, I’ve resigned. I can’t do anything against self-respect. Keep working hard. ’’

Later, talking to reporters, Rohit said that he has decided to resign due to personal reasons. He also said that he has sent his resignation letter to the President of India.

In 2022, Justice Rohit acquitted former Delhi University professor GN Saibaba in a Maoist case. He was sentenced to life in prison. The Supreme Court, however, stayed the Nagpur bench’s order. Nagpur directed the bench to hear the case anew.

Rohit joined the Bombay High Court as a judge in 2017. He was scheduled to retire in December 2025. Prior to that, he was the Advocate General of Maharashtra in 2016.
