Guwahati: The Government of Assam has taken a step to promote sattriya dance with a special status, which is recognized as one of the unique creations of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva. It is one of the popular classical dance forms of the country.
For this purpose, an important meeting was held at Janata Bhawan, Dispur under the chairmanship of Bimal Bora, Minister of Cultural Affairs, Industry, Commerce and Public Enterprises.
Principal Secretary, Department of Culture Dr. B Kalyan Chakraborty, Director, Directorate of Culture Meenakshi Das Nath, Additional Secretary Manidipa Barkataki, Deputy Secretary Anurag Phukan and departmental officials were present at the meeting. The Sattriya Dance Festival will be held on January 5, 6 and 7 next year on the pattern of the Konark Festival. The dance festival, which will have singles, doubles, three-member and group dance performances in every dance style.discussion , interactive sessions, etc. will also be held every day.
Culture Minister Bora directed the officials to chalk out a detailed plan to discuss the matter in detail and convene a meeting of Sattriya dance experts and events at later stage.
