New Delhi: The Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been temporarily closed due to landslides, which has temporarily halted the Amarnath Yatra. According to news agency ANI, due to the disaster, there has been a massive collapse in Ramben area of the national highway between Jammu and Srinagar. The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has said that as of now, no movement can be done in the area on the national highway without the permission of the administration.
The Amarnath Yatra from Jammu to Srinagar on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been suspended for the time being due to the landslide, the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police said in a statement. It may be recalled that the yatra was temporarily suspended when the pilgrims reached the Chandrakot base camp on Sunday. The area is very close to the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. However, apart from the disaster, the police also delayed the yatra due to the revamp of security ahead of Independence Day on August 15.
