Nipah cases rise in Kerala, mosques ban Friday prayers

Kochi: Nipah scare is on the rise in Kozhikode, Kerala. A 39-year-old man reported a new case on Friday. In all, the number of victims stands at 6. The focus is on 950 people who came in contact with them. Of these, 213 are in the high risk category. Two have already died. The administration is trying to deal with the situation.


State Health Minister Veena George issued a statement on the situation on Friday. Of those who came in contact with the infected, 287 are health workers. Large gatherings are being banned to ensure that the infection does not spread again. All have already been asked to pray at home on Friday. Four patients are in private hospitals. Besides, 17 people have been kept under observation at the Medical College in Kozhikode.
