Haflong : 31st State level children’s science congress inaugurated at Haflong , Dima Hasao. The children’s science congress will continue for three days. Keshab Mahanta, Assam Minister for Health and Family Welfare , Science, Technology inaugurated the State Level Children’s Science Congress at District Library Auditorium. Minister for Power, Sports & Youth Welfare Nandita Gorlosa was also present at the event. Council Executive Members Samuel Changsan i/c Medical, Lalremsiama Darnei i/c Secondary Education, NCHAC Principal Secretary Thai Tsho Daulagupu, Principal Secretary (N) Debanon Daulagupu, Dr. Ramesh Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor Cotton University and Jaideep Baruah, Director ASTEC and President of NCSC were also attented the innuagural function.
31st state level children’s science congress is being organized at Haflong by the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council in Association with local NGOs Blue Hills Society and Dawn of Change. This science congress organized has always played a pivotal role in nurturing and furthering the junior scientists in their aspirational journey. The Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC), Society for Socio Economic Awareness & Environmental Protection ( SSEAEP), Nagaon, Bharat Jana Vigyan Jatha (BJVJ) organisations have been actively involved in organizing this state level science congress since 1992 in different district of the state of Assam.
As many as 260 projects are being presented from all over the district by the Junior scientists with invigorating themes and scientific methodology. These projects are being scrutinized by 27 expert evaluators from the related subject matter academic background including the local evaluators from Dima Hasao district. Around 70 numbers of teachers have accompanied as guides for the participating children and 31 district co-ordinators. Also the entire academic programme is being stimulated by the 12 members of the State Academic Committee and 2 members of the National Academic Committee.
Altogether 26 best projects will be selected out of 260 projects presentations which will further be taken to national level Indian Science Congress date of which is yet to be finalized. Today 126 numbers of participants submitted their projects and presented simultaneously in 9 rooms at Don Bosco schools which has been centre for technical sessions during the programme and rest of 134 is scheduled for day 2.
An exhibition locally arranged by the council team where Self Help groups exhibited their products and local food that gained a lot of popularity among the crowd. Minister Nandita Gorlosa inaugurated the exhibition in presence of the dignitaries present. Students from different schools of Dima Hasao also displayed their science exhibition. A souvenir by name ‘Dima Hasao Scientia’ was also formally released by the Ministers on the occasion at the District Library Auditorium

Vigilante Justice For Alleged ULFA-I Impersonators In Dhekiajuli

In a dramatic turn of events, two youths faced the ire of locals in Assam’s Dhekiajuli after allegedly attempting to extort money by invoking the name of United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) and brandishing a pistol. The duo, claiming association with the insurgent group, attempted to extort a large amount of money by brandishing a pistol from an individual last week. When they came to pick up the money, enraged residents turned the tables, resulting in the youths being brutally beaten up. The two youths have been identified as Baloram Basumatary and Jajiya Narzary, hailing from Ghoghra Kachari Gaon in Dhekiajuli and Kokrajhar respectively.Sources informed that the duo threatened an individual at Panbari area in Dhekiajuli, namely Dalong Mampha, and attempted to extort Rs 7 lakh from him. Mampha was subsequently thrashed by the duo for not being able to pay the demanded sum of money. On Wednesday night, both the malefactors were brutally thrashed by a group of angry locals who had gotten information about their ill motives. Later, the residents handed the accused extortionists to the police for further legal proceedings. The pistol that was used to threaten the victim was also seized from their possession.
