New Delhi: The pet cat of the house was bitten and scratched. Within a week of the incident, the father and son died of rabies. The incident took place in Akbarpur town of Kanpur Dehat district in Uttar Pradesh.
The deceased have been identified as Imtiazuddin (58) and Azim Akhtar (24). Imtiaz is the headmaster of a primary school in Noida. His son Azeem also worked in Noida. Fifteen days ago, both father and son had come to their home in Akbarpur after taking leave.
They have a pet cat. Last September, the cat was bitten by a stray dog. The family members did not know about the incident. While caressing the cat, it bit Imtiaz. Since the cat was at home, Imtiaz did not want to pay much attention after the bite. His
Two days later, the cat scratched Azeem again. He also did not take the matter seriously, according to family sources. The cat contracted rabies after being bitten by a stray dog. No one in the family understood this. Incidentally, the cat also died a few days after Imtiaz and his son were bitten and scratched. Imtiarz did not give importance to the cause of death.
On November 21, the family had gone to attend a wedding in Bhopal. After reaching there, Azeem fell ill. First aid was given in Bhopal. However, after his condition deteriorated, he was brought to Kanpur and admitted to a hospital. He died on November 25. On the other hand, Imtiaz suddenly fell ill on November 29. He was admitted to the hospital. He died on November 30. According to the hospital, both died of rabies. The Kanpur health department is now monitoring whether the cat has bitten anyone else in the family and if anyone is showing any symptoms.
