Guwahati, January 31: “The glorious tradition of Me-Dam-Me-Phi will continue to inspire the next generation forever” . Minister for Industry, Commerce and Public Enterprises Bimal Bora said this.Minister Bora participated the central Me dam Mei Phi Celebration under the initiative of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam and in collaboration with the District Administration of Charaideo and Sivasagar and the Central Me dam Me Phi Celebration Committee. .Minister Bora said that this tradition signifies our rich heritage.
Me-Dam- Me-Phi means Me means to offer, Dam means the dead and Phi is the deity or ancestor. According to this tradition, ancestors are given a memorial through remembrance and seeking blessings. Minister Bara said that through this non-physical connections were established with the ancestors and sought blessings by wishing for the well-being of themselves as well as the society.Several eminent personalities including The Minister of Revenue, Jogen Mohan, MLA Dharmeshwar Konwar attended the ceremony held at Lakuwa.
