Kolkata:Trinamool Congress on Sunday announced its list of 42 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In a surprise move, the party fielded former cricketer Yusuf Pathan from Berhampore and brought in 26 new faces to contest in the polls. TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee made the announcement at the ‘Jana Garjan Sabha’ rally at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground
. This was the first time that the party announced a candidates list from a public meeting in one go. TMC MP Mahua Moitra will contest the polls from the Krishnanagar constituency, while Partha Bhowmick has been fielded from Barrackpore. Notably, the Mamata Banerjee-led party has made a strong move by fielding Yusuf Pathan against Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. Though earlier, Congress was hopeful of reaching a seat-sharing agreement with the TMC in Bengal, it has now been made clear that the later would go solo in the polls. Soon after the list’s release, the grand old party’s spokesperson Jairam Ramesh took to X and said,
