New Delhi: The Modi government has kept its word. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) came into force before the Lok Sabha elections. The much-debated law came into force across the country on Monday. In the evening, the central government issued a notification formally informing the CAA. The CAA came four years after the bill was passed by Parliament. The notification has been published on the government’s e-gazette website. The website details how and how people can apply for citizenship under CAA online.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, applications for citizenship can be made on the CAA online portal from Tuesday. Naturally, the CAA has been in the country’s eye for four years. The news of the implementation of the CAA was issued on Monday afternoon. After this, the e-Gazette website suddenly crashed as soon as the CAA notification was issued.
