Guwahati:Polling for the second phase of polling in five Lok Sabha seats of Assam ended peacefully. The second phase of polling was held today in five constituencies of Assam namely Diphu, Nagaon, Darrang-Udalguri, Silchar and Karimganj. A total of 61 candidates are in the fray in five Lok Sabha constituencies in the second phase of elections. In the second phase of elections, the voter turnout recorded in five constituencies of Assam till 5 pm is as follows : Darrang-Udalguri: 72.99 per cent, Nagaon: 71.84 per cent, Diphu: 69.62 per cent, Karimganj: 71.12 per cent, Silchar: 65.57 per cent. The overall voter turnout in Assam till 5 pm is 70.66.
A total of 13 candidates, including Congress’ Pradyut Bordoloi and BJP’s Suresh Bora are contesting in Nagaon constituency in the second phase. Eleven candidates, including BJP’s Dilip S. Ikea, former Congress MP Madhav Rajbanshi and BPF MLA Durgadas Boro are in the fray in Darrang-Udalguri. Similarly, in Diphu constituency, five candidates including former MLA Jairam Ingleng, former Executive Member of the Autonomous Council Jatson Bey, retired IAS officer John Ingti Kathar, Amar Singh Tso are in the fray for the BJP. There are a total of eight candidates in Silchar constituency. Among them are Ministers Parimal Suklabaidya of BJP, Radheshyam Biswas (Trinamool Congress), Suryakant Sarkar from the Congress. Karimganj constituency has a total of 24 candidates including Kripanath Malla of BJP, Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Chowdhury of Congress, Shahabul Islam Chowdhury of AIUDF etc. Voting was also held in 88 parliamentary constituencies in 13 states of the country today.
