Two including one woman, burnt to death on suspicion of being witches, 15 arrested

New Delhi: Two people were set to death alive by villagers in a village in Maharashtra on suspicion of being witches. Among those burnt to death is a woman. According to police, two persons, including a woman, were attacked and set on fire alive in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on suspicion of being a witch.

At least 15 people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Many in the village alleged that the two men who were killed on fire were involved in witchcraft. The villagers also alleged that a child named Aarohi Bandu Telami died due to magic. Angry over the child’s death, the villagers locked up the two men. A section of villagers attacked them and poured petrol on their bodies and set them on fire. The deceased have been identified as Jamni Devji Telami (52) and Deshu Katiya Atlami (57). E
