Manipur gets its first Supreme Court judge. On July 16, two new judges were appointed to the Supreme Court. For the first time, a Supreme Court judge has been appointed from Manipur. President Draupadi Murmu approved the appointment of Justices N Kotishwar Singh and Justice R Mahadevan to the Supreme Court.

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal formally announced the appointment of the judge. This filled vacancies in the Supreme Court.The Supreme Court collegium had earlier recommended the promotion of the two judges. The appointment of two new judges brings the total number of judges in the Supreme Court to 34, including Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. N Kotishwar Singh is the first judge of Manipur to be appointed to the Supreme Court. He is currently serving as the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. N Ibotombi Singh became the first Advocate General or Government Counsel of Manipur. Justice N Kotishwar Singh is the son of Ibotombi Singh.
