Bangladesh student protests: 32 people killed

New Delhi: Bangladesh is on fire with student movements. At least 32 people, including journalists, have been killed in police firing in the country’s anti-quota protests. Hundreds of protesters were injured. Local media claimed that 19 people were killed in the massive student protests that intensified across the country on Thursday. The death toll rose to 32 on Friday, news agencies said. Most of the dead were students. Among the dead was a journalist.

The Bangladesh government said 25 people had been killed in the anti-quota protests so far. The anti-quota student movement in Bangladesh has taken a devastating turn since Monday. The protesters have shut down the broadcast of government television channels. Mobile internet services have been banned. Police also opened fire to contain the protesters, killing 32 people. Many alleged that leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League were also involved in the clashes with the students. Thirteen of the dead were residents of Dhaka. Among the dead was a journalist named Hassan Mehdi. He works for a local newspaper.
