West Bengal Assembly to introduce bill against harassment

Kolkata: On Wednesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said from the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad foundation day meeting that the state will bring tough laws against rape. Within hours of speaking, the state cabinet gave its nod to the bill.

The Bill will be tabled in the Assembly on September 3. The state wants to set a time limit for the trial of brutal incidents like rape. A committee has been formed to draft the bill. Chief Secretary and Law Minister Malay Ghatak has started the work accordingly.

The special session of the Legislative Assembly is going to be held on the 2nd and 3rd of next month. The bill was decided to be introduced on the second day of that session. What is the content of the bill? In the case of any rape or rape-murder in the state, the bill will have the fastest punishment for the culprit.

In this regard, Minister Shobhandev Chattopadhyay said, “Special session will be held on September 2 and 3 in the Legislative Assembly. This bill will be presented in the assembly on 3rd. After the RG Kar hospital incident, the chief minister said he wanted speedy justice. Now the case has gone from police to CBI. It appears that CBI is taking a lot of time. So the Chief Minister wants to bring this bill. So that if a woman is raped, the culprit should be punished quickly.” It is known that the Chief Minister has asked that every party should forget the opposition and support this bill.
