Imphal:In a significant enforcement action, the Manipur Police, in collaboration with local village authorities from Kuilong and Kadi IV, have eradicated approximately 10 acres of suspected poppy nursery plants in the Tamenglong district. The operation spanned from September 27 to October 3, focusing on the illicit poppy plantations in the Kuilong Part 2 and Kadi IV villages, which fall under the jurisdiction of Tamei Police Station.The operation successfully cleared about 4-5 acres in Kuilong Part 2 and 5-6 acres in Kadi IV. This illegal cultivation, attributed to unidentified individuals, was revealed through the concerted efforts of local officials and law enforcement.On October 3, the Superintendent of Police in Tamenglong and Tamei Police personnel also removed poppy plants from the same areas, marking a crucial initiative in the ongoing fight against drug-related issues in the region.Manipur’s Chief Minister N. Biren Singh commended the operation, expressing gratitude on his X account (formerly Twitter). He emphasized the state’s commitment to eradicating illegal poppy cultivation and the broader drug trade, stating, “We will not rest until these poppy plantations and the drug menace are completely eradicated from Manipur.”
