Guwahati : The 576th birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, a pivotal figure in Assamese culture and the founder of the Vaishnavite movement, was commemorated with great reverence at Barpeta Satra. This sacred institution, established by his devoted disciple Sri Sri Madhavdev, stands as a cornerstone of Assamese spirituality and cultural heritage.
The celebration, known as Abirvab Mahotsav, was filled with religious fervor, echoing with chants of ‘Krishna Naam’ and ‘Harinaam Kirtan’ as devotees from across the region came together to honor Sankardev’s legacy. Leading the religious observances were Dr. Babul Chandra Das, the ‘Burha Sattriya’ of Barpeta Satra, alongside ‘Deka Sattriya’ Gautam Pathak. The day commenced with the melodious singing of ‘Borgget’ and devotional songs called ‘Bhatima,’ creating an atmosphere dedicated to reflecting on Sankardev’s substantial impact on Assam’s cultural and spiritual life.
