Assam Olympic Association Unveils Ambitious Plans for 2035 Olympic Bid

In a groundbreaking meeting, the newly formed Assam Olympic Association outlines initiatives to boost local sports talent and support India’s bid to host the 2035 Olympic Games, featuring the establishment of talent hunts and awards to honor outstanding athletes.

Guwahati: In a pivotal moment for Assam’s sports scene, state ministers Pijush Hazarika and Jayanta Mallabaruah have been appointed as vice-presidents of the restructured Assam Olympic Association (AOA). This announcement emerged during the inaugural meeting of the newly appointed Executive Committee, which outlined a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at enhancing the state’s involvement in major sporting events, including the future Olympic Games.

The committee’s leadership was further strengthened with the nomination of Shantanu Ranjan Saikia as an executive member. A significant resolution from the meeting was the creation of a Talent Hunt Working Group, composed of renowned athletes, to scout and nurture sporting talent throughout Assam. This initiative aims to prepare local athletes for upcoming championships, enhancing their competitiveness on a larger scale.

The committee also focused on India’s aspiration to host the 2035 Olympic Games, emphasizing how Assam can contribute to this national goal. The AOA expressed its commitment to supporting local athletes, aiming to elevate Assam’s position within India’s sports framework.

Additionally, plans were unveiled for the Assam Olympic Award Ceremony, which will recognize outstanding athletes and be named after boxing star Lovlina Borgohain, a figure who has significantly raised Assam’s profile in the sporting world.

In another important initiative, the committee announced the Assam Youth Olympic Games, aimed at inspiring and developing young athletes. This event is expected to lay the foundation for a new generation of talent, solidifying Assam’s commitment to strengthening its sporting infrastructure and athlete development in pursuit of Olympic aspirations.
