Guwahati: In a significant push for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is co-election in-charge for the state, underscored the elections’ importance for Jharkhand’s future. Following the Election Commission’s announcement of the poll schedule, Sarma declared on Twitter, “This election is decisive for the future of the state.” He contrasted the BJP’s vision, represented by #ModiKiGuarantee, against what he termed the INDI alliance’s “track record of sin, corruption and appeasement” over the past five years.The elections are scheduled to take place in two phases on November 13 and 20, with vote counting on November 23. Key dates outlined by the Election Commission include:Gazette notifications on October 18 and 22,Nomination deadlines on October 25 and 29,Scrutiny of nominations on October 28 and 30,Withdrawal of nominations until October 30 and November 1 for the respective phasesCovering 81 assembly constituencies, the election will see 43 seats voting in the first phase and 38 in the second. This crucial contest pits the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led coalition, part of the opposition INDIA bloc, against the BJP-led NDA. Sarma’s remarks signal the BJP’s ambition to make significant strides in Jharkhand, emphasizing a grassroots campaign strategy. He stated, “In the coming days, in this great festival of democracy, all our workers will reach the homes of the people and pray for their blessings.”
