Guwahati: In a meeting organized by Jamiyat Ulama in Assam, state leader Maulana Badruddin Ajmal voiced strong concerns over the ongoing debate regarding Waqf properties, accusing the government of hindering their rightful return. His remarks were part of a larger discussion about the government’s approach to Muslim community interests in the region.Ajmal challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assertion that he envisions Muslim children balancing a Quran and a laptop, calling it one of Modi’s biggest falsehoods. He criticized the Prime Minister’s notion of “sabka saath, sabka vishwas,” stating it has devolved into a reality of “sabka saath, sabka barbaadi,” implying that the government’s policies neglect Muslim development.He emphasized the historical importance of Waqf properties, noting the sacrifices made by Muslims during India’s independence. Ajmal highlighted that the Assam Waqf Board manages significant properties across the state, particularly in urban centers like Paltan Bazar and Guwahati.“We will not relent,” Ajmal declared, indicating the group’s readiness to contest any legislative decisions that threaten these properties. He affirmed their commitment to fight for their rights, even if it requires escalating the matter from the High Court to the Supreme Court, stressing that these lands are of profound historical and religious significance.This discussion comes on the heels of a recent protest by Opposition MPs, who walked out of a Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting, alleging misuse of the forum by Anwar Manippady, a former minority commission chairman, to politically target the Congress government in Karnataka. Members raised questions regarding the neutrality of the committee’s proceedings, further complicating the issue.
