Nagaland and Assam Leaders to Meet with Central Government to Resolve Border Dispute

Guwahati: In a move to address the escalating border tensions with Assam, representatives from the Nagaland government, including Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, will soon meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Patton shared this news during a visit to Tuli in the Mokokchung district, where he assessed the situation and engaged with local communities.Accompanied by local MLA A Pangjung Jamir and district officials, Patton inspected critical areas, including the Assam Police Commando Battalion camp. His visit aimed to gather insights from residents and address their concerns regarding the border dispute, which has seen both states accusing each other of land occupation in the contested region.During discussions with local villagers and representatives from the Ao Senden tribal body, Patton highlighted the state cabinet’s commitment to resolving the issue. He noted that letters had been sent to central leaders, emphasizing the government’s proactive stance. He also urged locals to maintain ownership of their land and refrain from selling to non-indigenous individuals.The border conflict between Nagaland and Assam spans 512.1 kilometers, with a case pending in the Supreme Court for several years.
