Imphal:In a significant political development, nineteen BJP MLAs from Manipur have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting the removal of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. Among the signatories are prominent figures like Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyavrat Singh and ministers Thongam Vishwajit Singh and Yumnam Khemchand Singh. This letter follows a recent meeting in Delhi that included representatives from the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities. Reports indicate that five MLAs from the ruling party delivered the letter directly to the Prime Minister on Wednesday. The MLAs expressed grave concerns regarding the government’s inability to restore peace and normalcy in the state, which has been plagued by conflict. They highlighted increasing pressure from their constituents, many of whom are urging their representatives to resign if a quick resolution is not achieved. In their letter, the MLAs stated, “As devoted supporters of the BJP, we bear the responsibility of protecting both Manipur and the party’s interests in the state.” They contend that the removal of the current chief minister is essential to addressing the communal strife. The legislators argued that relying solely on security forces is insufficient to resolve the ongoing crisis. They warned that continued unrest could lead to irreparable damage to Manipur and tarnish India’s standing. Instead, they advocated for dialogue as a means of reconciliation. The letter concluded with a pressing call for immediate efforts to initiate peace talks with all involved parties, emphasizing the need to overcome barriers to dialogue and create a conducive environment for discussions.
