Guwahati: Supriya Chakraborty has been taken into custody in Margherita on charges of allegedly murdering her five-year-old son, Abhimanyu. The tragic incident unfolded against the backdrop of the Durga Puja celebrations, during which the child went missing.Abhimanyu, who resided near the old Ramkrishna Vidyapeeth School playground, was reported missing on the ninth day of Durga Puja. His body was discovered last Monday along the banks of the Burhidihing River.The community has expressed deep sorrow and anger, calling for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Initial efforts to locate the boy included extensive searches, but the inquiry soon took a disturbing turn, implicating his mother. “How could a mother commit such an act? It’s incomprehensible,” remarked a local resident.On October 11, a formal complaint was lodged at the Margherita police station regarding Abhimanyu’s disappearance. As investigators delved deeper, unsettling evidence emerged, ultimately leading to Supriya Chakraborty’s arrest. After thorough questioning, she was taken into custody today, with authorities citing substantial evidence tying her to the alleged crime.Chakraborty has been charged under case number 144/2024, along with additional legal provisions.
